Bring D-pad action to your Vectrex!

Everyone who has ever owned a Vectrex knows that the weak link in the system, both in terms of gameplay and durability, is the stock controller. The joystick is prone to breaking and is hard to use for some people. While the joystick is analog, most Vectrex games were written to convert the analog signal to a digital input (simply on or off).

Our modded SNES controller takes advantage of this and uses the D-pad to send a signal to the Vectrex that the stick has been moved to it's full range of motion for the appropriate axis of movement. Put simply, the SNES controller behaves exactly like a Vectrex controller as far as the console is concerned. Using a D-pad controller, games like Scramble and Berserk become exceptionally easy to control.

We use only 100% genuine recycled Super Nintendo controllers as donors - never cheap knock-offs. Each controller is fitted with a custom circuit board designed by RecycledGamer to replace the stock board. Each controller is then carefully cleaned and tested before reassembly to guarantee 100% awesome gaming control.

Please Note: Slight variations in the controller may exist as Nintendo released several revisions to the controller over the life of the Super Nintendo system. We select the best controllers for our Vectrex conversions, but it is possible that the controller may show minor cosmetic wear.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will this controller work with the Super Nintendo?
No. Once the SNES controller has been modified for use with the Vectrex, it is no longer usable on a Super Nintendo console.

Can the button mappings be changed?
No. While some controller adapter plans call for a micro-controller to allow the buttons to be mapped, in this particular model the buttons are always mapped to the same place.

Are there any Vectrex games that will not work with the modified SNES controller?
There are two original Vectrex games that require the original analog joystick: Hyperchase (all variations) and Starhawk (game variation 2). There may be some homebrew games that also require analog control. All other games will work with the adapted Genesis controller.

Why does the plug on my modded SNES controller say Sega?
The Vectrex controller requires a 9-conductor cable to operate. Additionally, the plug interface is a 9-pin DSUB connector. The Sega Genesis controller cable uses a similar 9-pin DSUB connector. So basically we use Genesis controllers as donors for this part since they are both plentiful and inexpensive. The plug requires only minimal trimming to fit into the Vectrex.
